Jerrold Young, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Jerrold Young grew up in Montreal, Canada. He attended McGill University and in 1967 graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. He attended medical school at McGill and received his Medical Degree in 1971. In addition to serving as class president for four years, he concurrently earned a Master of Science Degree in Surgical Research. 

Dr. Young completed his surgical training at the University of Miami in 1976, and is a voluntary Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.), to which he serves as a Councilor of the South Florida Chapter. Dr. Young is a member of numerous medical and surgical societies including the American Hernia Society. 

Dr. Young practiced general and vascular surgery in Miami for over 25 years during which time he repaired more than 5000 abdominal wall hernias. He is a strong advocate of the Prolene Hernia System repair, the technique developed by Dr. Gilbert at the Hernia Institute of Florida. He will utilize his administrative and surgical skills as the Institute’s Director of Surgery and will teach at seminars where leading surgeons from around the country and the world come to the Hernia Institute for training.

Dr. Young has served as the chief of General Surgery for both Baptist and
South Miami Hospitals. He was recently named to the Baptist Hospital Foundation. He is a member of the Society of University Founders of the University of Miami, and a founding member of the Maimonides Society. He has served as a volunteer surgeon for the Good News Clinic in Florida City, and the Community Health Clinic.
